Little Known Spaghetti Western Actors ~ Robert Carricart

[These daily posts will cover little known actors or people that have appeared in more recent films and TV series. Various degrees of information that I was able to find will be given and anything that you can add would be appreciated.]

Robert Anthony Carricart was born on January 18, 1917, in Bordeaux, France. At the age of 3, he emigrated to the United States and then to Spain at the age of 16. He returned to the United States and decided to stay longer in the hope of becoming a toreador. He also thought of becoming a playwright. He attended the Dramatic Workshop in New York, where he participated in a writing class thanks to the G.I. Bill.

Robert Carricart began his acting career in 1947 by playing the role of Thyreus on Broadway in the play “Antony and Cleopatra”. His other theatrical credits included “King Richard III” and “Captain Brassbound's Conversion”. He spoke several languages, which brought him to Hollywood, California. Robert Carricart began his career on the big and small screens in 1950, appearing in the documentary series ‘Believe it or Not!’. He guest-starred in numerous television series including ‘The New Team’, ‘Very Special Agents’, ‘Mr. Lucky’, ‘Combat!’, ‘Heart of Time’, ‘Columbo’, ‘The Andy Griffith Show’, ‘Tales of Wells Fargo’, ‘Max the Menace’, ‘Have Gun, Will Travel’, ‘Bat Masterson;, ‘Man with a Camera’, ‘The Outcasts’, ‘Perry Mason’, and ‘Bonanza’. In 1963, Carricart starred as Jose Garcia in the film “The Acapulco Idol”, starring Elvis Presley.

Other films in which Carricart appeared included “Quarter-Second Heist”, “The Offering”, “On the Trail of the Apaches”, “The Bloody Arrow”, “The 7 Thieves of Chicago”, “The Sheriff of the Ladies”, “The Black Spurs”, and “Pancho Villa”. He was originally intended to play the character of George Washington Wishbone in the western series ‘Rawhide’, but actor Paul Brinegar took on the role in its entirety. Robert Carricart only played the role in the pilot episode. In 1966, he joined the cast of the crime series ‘T.H.E. Cat’, to take on the role of gypsy nightclub owner Pepe Cordoza.

Robert Carricart died of unknown causes on March 3, 1993, in Los Angeles, California, at age 76.

Carricart appeared in two Euro-westerns “Villa Rides! In 1967 as Don Luis Gonzalez and in 1969 as Julio Rojas in “Land Raiders”.
