RIP Nigel Brooks


British composer, arranger, conductor and actor Nigel James Brooks died in his hometown of Barnstaple, Devon, England on March 1st. He was 97. Brooks was born in Barnstaple on December 24, 1926, and was a legend within the Music & Musical Theatre industry - working with some of the industry’s finest and more recently was announced in Her Majesty the Queen’s Birthday 2022 Honors list and was awarded the honor of the British Empire Medal (B.E.M.) for service to the Musical Theatre and Music Industry. Brooks wrote three ballets for Sadler's Wells (Barnstaple Fair, Seven Cameos for Combe and The Water Babies), and an opera based on Daphne du Maurier's novel Jamaica Inn. He was married to Jean, whose death was commemorated by his adagio for strings To My Love. He appeared as Larkin in the 1954 British television production of ‘The Girl of the Golden West’.
