Orchidea De Santis was born in Bari, Puglia, Italy on December 20, 1948. She started her show business career as a singer and then became a theater actress. Her career ranged from film to radio, from theater to music, until she landed in television.
Active mainly in the 1970s, Orchidea was an interpreter of Italian erotic comedies, initially mainly in costume with the setting of Boccaccio.
Her career suffered an abrupt halt in 1980, following a serious accident on the set of the film “Arrivano i gatti”.
During her radio career she has held numerous jobs as an actress, especially in scripted episodes such as ‘Barocco Roma’ and ‘Racconto Italiano’, transmitted by RadioDue. She had the lead, in the 1998-2000, ‘L'arca di Noè’ for RadioDue and in 1998 for RAI International she developed a program directed and conducted in thirteen episodes on film and soundtrack called ‘Ciak si esegue’. She was the creator and host of the ‘L'anello di re Salomone’, from 2000 to 2006 which led to four hours of live radio on RadioDue Two nights a week.
For television, she took part in dramas and short films, including ‘Roosevelt’ (RAITRE, 1986), ‘La Maga Circe’ and ‘Lucrezia Borgia’ (RAIUNO, 1987), ‘Il caso Redoli’ and TV movies for the major network (RAIUNO, 1996).
Orchidea has appeared in over 55 film and TV appearances starting in 1963. Among which were two Euro-westerns: “Ringo’s Two Sons” (1966) as Marisol with Franco and Ciccio and “The Prey of Vultures” (1972) with Peter Lee Lawrence. She also was to appear in “Sundown John” in 1972 but the film was never made.
She currently runs a blog and works with various animal welfare organizations and environmental organizations.
