Franco Nero will collect the Tabernas de Cine award at Almería Western Film Festival

 

Almería, September 15, 2021 -. Franco Clemente Giuseppe Sparanero, known as Franco Nero (Parma, 1941) will return to Tabernas to collect one of the most important awards at the Almería Western Film Festival (AWFF). The Italian actor has participated in more than 220 films with such renowned directors as John Huston, Luis Buñuel, Enzo G. Castellari or Quentin Tarantino.

During his cinematographic career he passed through Tabernas in the films 'Texas, Adiós' (Ferdinando Baldi, 1966), ‘Man, Pride and Vengeance' (Luigi Bazzoni, 1967), 'Salario para muerte' (Sergio Corbucci, 1968), 'Companeros' (Sergio Corbucci, 1970) and 'The White, the Yellow, the Black' (Enzo G. Castellari, 1975). Nero has stated on several occasions that “everyone has their first love and mine was the western film”. He is one of the most popular actors of the 60s and 70s, of great physical attractiveness, acclaimed by the public.

“I've said it other times, westerns drives me crazy, it's a need that is in my blood, like breathing or eating. That is why it is a real honor to receive this year's Tabernas de Cine Award. I had the opportunity to shoot five films in Almería together with Corbucci, Castellari, Baldi and Bazzoni, it is always a pleasure to return to this special land. Every corner of the Tabernas Desert has written its part in the history of cinema and I am looking forward to meeting the fans again during the Almería Western Film Festival”, he said.

Nero started acting in 1962 but it was his role as a gunman in 'Django' (Sergio Corbucci, 1966) that launched him to international fame. The actor will introduce the Panorama Section film ‘Django & Django’ (Luca Rea and Steve Della Casa, 2021), a documentary about the figure of director Corbucci. In honor of Nero, the film 'The Companions' will be screened, one of the films that are part of the Retrospective Section of AWFF 2021.

In previous editions, Almería Western Film Festival has awarded the Tabernas de Cine Award to actors and directors such as Sara Montiel, Mónica Randall, Enzo G. Castellari, Sancho Gracia, Terence Hill, Alberto Dell'Acqua, George Martin, Sal Borgese, Claudia Cardinale, Alex Cox and Ángel del Pozo. All the winners have a chair on the Tabernas Film Walk to keep these figures of western cinema alive in their memory.

The 11th edition of the Almería Western Film Festival will be held from October 8 to 11, 2021 in Tabernas and in the western towns of Oasys MiniHollywood and Fort Bravo Texas Hollywood. The Festival maintains its structure with the official sections of feature films, short films and school practices. In addition, parallel activities such as the presentation of literary works, theater and music, initiatives that will be adapted to the anticovid regulations in force at that time. AWFF, promoted by the Tabernas City Council, has the collaboration of the Ministry of Tourism, Regeneration, Justice and Local Administration, the Andalusian Agency for Cultural Institutions of the Ministry of Culture of the Junta de Andalucía and the Diputación de Almería.
