The Valle del Buho extends about three kilometers west of
Tabernas. It offers wide open spaces and a prairie appearance,
"mesas" and an old cortijo in ruins, of which only the walls remain
are also part of the terrain. It was seen in several Eurowestern films such as “I Want
Him Dead (1968); “Boot Hill” (1969); "Run, Man, Run" (1969);
"The Night of the Serpent" (1969); “A Man Called Sledge” (1970);
"Catlow" (1971); “The Hunting Party” (1971); “The Long Day of Violence”
(1971); "The Ballad of Ben and Charlie" (1972); "Sonny &
Jed" (1972); "Sting of the West" (1972) and "The White, the
Yellow, the Black" (1974). A few tens of meters away at the foot of a
"mesa" near a vertical wall, a fort was built with a wooden palisade
for the films "The Last of the Mohicans” (1965) and, a short distance
away, the set of a mine was built and blown up in the final part of "The
Genius" (1975); this sequence is combined with parts shot in Monument
Valley (Arizona). Still a short distance from the cortijo, the sequence of
"Valdez is Coming!" where the black man is unjustly accused. Valle de
Buho is also used in "Blood and Guns" (1969); "El Condor"
(1970); “The Hunting Party” (1971); "Red Sun" (1971) and in episodes
of the TV series "Queen of Swords" (2001). At the northern edge of
the valley extends an area rich in saline outcrops, called Llano de Benavidas,
which appears in “The Last of the Mohicans” (1965); "Boot Hill"
(1969); "El Condor" (1970); "Those Dirty Dogs" (1973) and
"The Daltons" (2004).
