After celebrating his 80th Birthday: Terence Hill gets a
Museum in Saxony
Hamburger Abendblatt
By Aaron Clamann
Terence Hill turned 80 at the end of March. He has a
special connection to the city of Lommatzsch - and soon even a museum.
Terence Hill was a
police officer, western hero and conservationist with a penchant for shrubs and
plum trees. Not a time retirement for Mario Girotti, as Terence Hill, does not
seem to be a suitable pastime. That does not change on his 80th birthday, which
wa celebrated on March 29, 2019 Hill. The city of Lommatzsch is now giving the
superstar a slightly delayed birthday present: a museum.
Hill was born in Venice in 1939, but also spent part of
his childhood in Germany - a reason why he always visits old acquaintances and
of course his fans here. The actor also has plenty of reasons to do so, as it
was only last year that Terence Hill released his most recent film "My
Name Is Somebody - Two Fists Return" .
At film festivals and performances Hill also presented
the film in Germany. The film is an ironic pointer to Hills' first successes
and his career, which he spent for a long time alongside Bud Spencer, who died
in 2016 in Rome.
For the 80th Birthday we answer the most important
questions about Terence Hill:
Where can you see
the films of Terence Hill?
On March 27, just before Hill's 80th birthday , Kabel 1
showed one of his most famous films, “Zwei sind nicht zu bremsen“ "Two can
not be stopped". Together with Bud Spencer, Hill does a good job - and was
shown in prime time.
Kabel 1 also showed the documentary “The Terence Hill
Story” for the first time. In addition, the magazine “Abenteuer Leben” will
celebrate the birthday of the action hero on March 31st at 10pm.
Afterwards, “The Terence Hill Story” will be shown again.
Does Terence Hill
have children?
Terence Hill has a biological son: Jess Hill. He’s
appeared as an actor in some of his father's films. In addition, Terence Hill
had an adopted son Ross Hill, who was born in 1973. Ross died in a car accident
in 1990.
What does Terence
Hill have to do with the Saxon community Lommatzsch in Germany?
Terence Hill is an honorary citizen of the municipality
Lommatzsch near Meissen. With Lommatzsch Hill combines a part of his childhood:
from 1943-1945 he lived with his parents in the place. The mother of Mario
Girotti comes from Saxony. It is unclear whether she also comes from Lommatzsch
or from Dresden.
The community celebrates with a Spencer Hill Fest since
2018 - a film festival dedicated to two action heroes Bud Spencer and Terence
Hill. The origin of the festival lies in visiting Hills in the community in
1995. In 1991, Hill had lost a bet on the show "Wetten, dass ..?" And
the visit was his wager. In the following years there were numerous fan
meetings, which take place in the form of the festival since last year in
Lommatzsch.
A museum dedicated to Terence Hill will open in
Lommatzsch on May 11, Axel Hoffmann of Spencerhill Event GmbH announced on
Wednesday. The future museum is located in a half-timbered house on the market
of the city. On two floors should be conveyed to the visitors, which is the
cult following of Terence Hill and why he still has a loyal fan base, it said.
But not only on the side of Bud Spencer Terence Hill had
a solo career. In the first film as Nobody - "My Name is Nobody" – which
was played Hill, for example, on the side of Hollywood legend Henry Fonda.
Co-producer and creative director of the film directed by Sergio Leone, who was
responsible for the classics "Once Upon a Time in the West" and
"For a Fistful of Dollars" as a director. The music for "My Name
is Nobody" was provided by the composer Ennio Morricone. Especially in
Italy Hill was also been seen solo in numerous series.
How did Terence
Hill and Bud Spencer get to know each other?
Terence Hill and Bud Spencer may already have known each
other before their film career began. According to the "Bild"
newspaper Hill reported in 2017 that both had trained at the same swimming
club: in Lazio Rome. While swimming was more of a hobby for Hill, Spencer would
do more. He participated in the Olympic Games and was an Italian champion.
Together in a movie, both were seen in 1959 in Hanibal. Terence Hill's new
feature film is dedicated to Bud Spencer. The film is called “Mein Name ist
Somebody – Zwei Fäuste kehren zurück”. "My Name is Somebody - Two fists
return".
Why the city of
Worms today has no Terence Hill Bridge
The mayor of Worms announced last year to name a
pedestrian bridge after the action hero. The occasion was to be a film premiere
in Worms, as reported by the "Allgemeine Zeitung". But after the
announcement, there was much wonder - in politics as well as relatives of a
deceased entrepreneur. After this, the bridge was named so far.
The mayor had therefore considered renaming it to
Karl-Kübel-Terence-Hill-Brücke. The mayor supported the idea by a connection of
Terence Hill, who has this to the city of Worms. This has a close connection to
the Nibelungen saga and Hill played as Mario Girotti the figure of Giselher in
a Nibelungen film adaptation. The renaming did not happen despite this
connection.
