When Skimmel has run out of bullets on his single shot pistols he retreats to his headquarters with Sabata in hot pursuit. Once in his room Skimmel is able to get the drop on Sabata and tells him to put down his rifle. Sabata does so and Skimmel steps behind his portrait to get a shot at Sabata. Before he can fire Sabata throws his knife into the portrait killing the colonel as he slides to the floor.
