American Indian activist, poet and occasional actor John
Trudell has died at 69. Born on Febraury 15, 1946 in Omaha, Nebraska Trudell spoke
for American Indian protesters during the 1969 Alcatraz Island occupation and
later headed the American Indian Movement. During the 19-month takeover,
Trudell was a spokesman and ran a radio broadcast called Radio Free Alcatraz.
He appeared in two Euro-westerns: “Powwow Highway” (1988) as Louie Short Hair
and TV’s ‘DreamKeeper’ (2003) as Coyote.
