Ennio De Concini was
born on December 9, 1923 in Rome, Italy. De Concini was a prolific screenwriter
and author who wrote over 150 screenplays practicing the many different genres,
from literary-historical to mythological epic and horror, from melodrama to
Italian comedy. He was the co-screenwriter of “The Red Tent” a 1969 film
starring Sean Connery which was based on Umberto Nobile's disastrous 1928
expedition to the North Pole in the airship Italia. Among his many films to his
credit are “Mambo” (1954), “War and Peace” (1956), “Long Night in 1943” (1960),
“Divorce Italian Style” and “Battle of the Worlds” (both 1961), and “Hitler:
The Last Ten Days” (1973). Ennio also co-wrote the screenplays for three
Euro-westerns: “Guns for San Sebastian” (1967), “Four of the Apocalypse” (1974)
and “China 9, Liberty 37” (1978).Ennio also tried his hand at directing with “The 11 Musketeers” (1952) “Daniel and Mary”, and “The Last 10 Days of Hitler” (1973), for television he directed “Luisa - Four Stories of Women” (1987), and also produced the film 0f Antonio Leonviola “The gladiatrici” (1963).
De Concini died in Rome on November 17, 2008.
