Johnny Ketchum is the son of notorious gunfighter Ace Ketchum, and he is search of the man who killed his mother. His search brings him in contact with Deputy Mace Fenton, who wants to collect the $10,000 reward on Ace Ketchum's head, a wealthy landowner named Don Pedro Fortuna and his daughter Pilar; and Juan Morales, a Mexican bandit terrorizing the territory. Before finishing his quest, Johnny finds love, learns family secrets, and fights with the Morales gang.

Remembering Carlo Monni

Carlo Monni was born on October 23, 1943 in Campi Bisenzio, Florence, Italy. He debuted in shows in clubs and festivals in the Florence area. During one of these occasions he had the chance to meet Roberto Benigni, with whom he formed a long artistic and personal friendship. In 1976, Benigni Monni appeared on Rai 2: the two comedians pretended to disturb the frequencies of RAI with an imaginary TV.

 
In 1978 he appeared in a program by Roberto Benigni, “Vita da Cioni”. From 1978 onwards he starred in several films that made him famous, among which were Berlinguer’s “Ti voglio bene di Giuseppe Bertolucci”. During his career he had the opportunity to work for many directors such as Marco Ferreri, Sergio Citti, Massimo Troisi, Mario Monicelli, Carlo Lizzani, Pupi Avati, Kayleigh and Paul Virzi. In 1987 he was called by Daniele Luchetti for the film “Domani accadrà”, but had to refuse because of a commitment to theater work. He was noted for his 1984 role of "Vitellozzo", alongside Roberto Benigni and Massimo Troisi. In 1973 Monni appeared in his only Euro-western “For a Book of Dollars” as the dentist.
 
Very rare, however, were his appearances on television, a means of communication that he did not care for. In 1986 he refused to participate in a work with Renzo Arbore, while in the last years of his life he participated as a guest star, always at the side of his friend Massimo Ceccherini on - the program Stracult.  He appeared in over 100 plays, including in 1998 the play of Ceccherini “Tutti questo è uno spettacolo” in the role of Mastro Geppetto. Carlo Monni loved to indulge in free versification in the Tuscan tradition.
 
He died in Florence on May 19, 2013 at age 69.

Remembering Alida Chelli

Alida Rustichelli was born in Carpi, Emilia-Romagna, Italy on October 23, 1943. The daughter of film composer and conductor Carlo Rustichelli [1916-2004], sister of the composer Paolo Rustichelli [1953-    ], she began in her youth as a singer, participating in television variety shows and comedies.

 
She became well known with her version of the song “Sinno me moro”, which opens the film “Un maledetto imbroglio” (The Facts of Murder) with a soundtrack composed by her father in 1959: in the years that followed the song became a classic Italian song in the Roman dialect, and was recorded by Lando Fiorini and Gabriella Ferri paired with Luisa De Santis and later as a solo. During this period, Alida Chelli also recorded "Se è vero amore”.
 
She went on to star in many films and on stage, often singing, as in the musical “Quando dico che ti amo” and musical comedies such as Rugantino, in 1978, alongside Enrico Montesano and Cyrano, in 1979, with Domenico Modugno in “Aggiungi un posto a tavola”, in 1990 with Johnny Dorelli. She appeared in her only Euro-western “Three Silver Dollars” as Jauna in 1968.
 
Alida was married to actor Walter Chiari [1924-1991] from 1969-1981 and they had a son, the actor Simone Annichiarico [1970-    ], after their divorce, Chelli married Count Agusta and subsequently had been linked for some time to Pippo Baudo .
 
After a long illness she died in Rome on December 14, 2012 at the age of 69 years old.

Remembering James Daly

James Firman Daly was born on October 23, 1918 in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. During the 1930s, Daly studied drama and acted in shows before he worked for the armed services, and served with the Navy as World War II ended.

 
Daly was a music major at the University of Wisconsin, a drama major at Iowa State University, and attended Carroll College before receiving a degree from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Cornell College later presented him with an honorary doctor's degree in Fine Arts.
 
Between 1953 and 1955 Daly appeared in the TV series ‘Foreign Intrigue’. He is also well remembered for his portrayal of "Mr. Flint" (an apparently immortal human) in the Star Trek episode "Requiem for Methuselah" in 1969. Daly is perhaps best known for his role as Dr. Paul Lochner in the hospital drama series Medical Center (1969-1976), in which he played Chad Everett's superior.
 
In 1958 Daly signed a contract with the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company to do television commercials for Camel cigarettes. He served as the Camel representative for seven years, being flown by Reynolds throughout the United States to be filmed smoking a Camel at various locations.

 

Daly was also an accomplished stage actor, starting out in 1946 as Gary Merrill's understudy in Born Yesterday. Among his starring Broadway roles were in Archibald MacLeish's Pulitzer Prize- winning J.B. and Tennessee Williams' Period of Adjustment.
 
In addition to his acting career, Daly was one of the hosts on NBC Radio's weekend Monitor program in 1963-64.
 
He appeared in only one Euro-western “The Five Man Army” (1969) as Captain Nicholas Augustus Bennett.
 
Daly was married to actress Hope Newell [1921-2009] from 1942-1966 and is the father of actress Tyne Daly [1946- ] and producer, director Tim Daly [1956- ] and the grandfather of actress Kathryne Dora Brown [1971- ].
 
James died of a heart attack on July 3, 1978.

Happy 70th Birthday Catherine Deneuve

Catherine Deneuve was born Catherine Fabienne Dorléac on Oactober 22, 1943 in Paris, France. She is the daughter of actor  Maurice Dorléac [1901-1979], sister of actress Françoise Dorléac [1942-1967]. She gained recognition for her portrayal of aloof and mysterious beauties in films such as “Repulsion” (1965) and “Belle de jour” (1967). Deneuve was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in 1993 for her performance in “Indochine”; she also won César Awards for that film and “The Last Metro” (1980). One of France's most renowned actresses, she has also appeared in seven English-language films, most notably the 1983 cult classic “The Hunger”. In 2008, she appeared in her 100th film, “Un conte de Noël”. She was married to director, screenwriter David Bailey [1938- ] and is the mother of actor Christian Vadim [1963- ] and actress Chiara Mastroianni [1972- ].

 
Catherine has appeared in only one Euro-western, “Don’t Touch the White Woman!” (1973) playing the role Marie-Hélène de Boismonfrais.

RIP Gianni Ferrio

Gianni Ferrio, one of Italian films greatest composers died today in Italy at the age of 88. He was born Giovanni Achille Ferrio in Vicenza, Veneto, Italy and studied at conservatories of Vicenza and Venice. He started working at the end of the 1950s, and was active as a film composer of film, signing about 120 scores especially for Spaghetti westerns and sex comedies. His piece "One Silver Dollar", the main theme of the sound-track of Giorgio Ferroni's Un dollaro bucato, was later included in the sound-track of Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds. Ferrio was also well known for his work in pop music, particularly for his collaboration with Mina, for whom he composed, among others, "Parole parole". He was the official conductor for Sanremo Music Festival in 1959 and 1962 and for the Eurovision Song Contest 1965. He also took part, as conductor, in several important Italian TV-shows. Gianni was married to actress Alba Arnova [1930- ] since 1956.

 
Ferrio composed over two dozen scores for European westerns including seven scores for the recently passed Giuliano Gemma.

As a child Tracy witnesses the death of his father Django who is shot in the back. After many  years he joins two gunmen, Logan and "Four Aces", whose goal is reach Topeka City, where they were called by a certain Thompson to liberate the country from the outlaw Clay and his henchmen. Among them, however, it is discovered that Mark Thompson's right hand man is the murderer of Tracy’s father and the true leader of the gang of outlaws. After many misunderstandings Tracy, who in the first half believed the same Thompson the murderer of his father and the cause of the riots in Topeka City, manages, along with Logan and "Four Aces", to eradicate Clay’s gang of Clay. Tired of hatred and bloodshed, Tracy is now converted to Christian ethics by the consoling Reverend Fleming.
