Michael Patrick Bell was born in Brooklyn, New York to a Jewish family on July 30, 1938. He has been married to actress Victoria Carroll (Mary Carol Lee Ford) since 1984. Together they have a daughter, Ashley Bell [1986- ] who is also an actress. He is an animal rights activist. He is the godfather of actor Steve Guttenberg 1958- ], who cites Bell as his inspiration to become an actor.
Bell is primarily a voice actor and dubber who has appeared in over 390 films and television series either in front of or behind the camera. He’s best known as the voice of Handy Smurf, Grouchy Smurf and Lazy Smurf from The Smurfs (1981).
From 2016-2019, Bell served on the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Local of SAG-AFTRA.
Michael Bell appeared in only one Euro-western “Blue” in 1968 where he played a settler named Jim Benton.
