Born Neville George Gaha in Australia on November 26, 1941. Sammy's career started in Australia in the early 1960s when he started doing back-up vocals in a group called “The Leeman”. By the second half of the sixties he even formed his own group "Little Sammy and The In People" in Sydney.
Just like many artists he came to Paris during the early 1970s. He joined “Blue Beard”, a band who perhaps most famously played for Mick and Bianca Jagger’s wedding in 1970. Sammy also enjoyed a string of hit singles in France throughout the following decade. Among others he recorded a song for the soundtrack of the film "The Legend of Frenchie King" (1971). Apart from that he worked as a session musician and toured around. By 1974 he recorded a single "J'ai envie de toi" backed with "Cuckoo" in the same studio where Vangelis spent a lot of time, and so it came to be that Vangelis helped out with playing the synthesizer on these songs. Gaha then returned to Australia.
Sammy was married to Danielle Gaha and is the father of singer Danni'elle Gaha [1967- ] and TV personality Eden Gaha [1968- ].
Gaha died in Sydney, Australia on April 10, 2016.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the correction. The system won't allow me to go back that far and change the post so you're comment will have to suffice. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteI met Sammy in about 2009 at a recording studio in NSW and he was very sweet and humble and polite.
ReplyDeleteThe owner of the studio told me he was actually Kylie Minogues father… I do not know if this is true or not. Maybe you can try to find out.
