Marcello
Marrocchi was born in Veroli, Frosinone, Lazio, Italy on July 16, 1941.He’s
composed over 500 songs for famous Italian performers, from Gianni Morandi to
Nicola Di Bari , from Louiselle to Massimo Ranieri, for whom he wrote (together
with Giampiero Artegiani ) “Losing Love”, winner of the Sanremo Festival in
1988, for Amedeo Minghi (with whom he composed “A Man Who Came From Afar”,
dedicated to John Paul II and whom Minghi sang before the Pope) the Squadra
Italia group, for which he and Stefano Jurgens wrote “Una vecchia canzone
italiana”, and Ivana Spagna ( for which he composed “Mamma Teresa”, dedicated
to Mother Teresa of Calcutta).
He
is also greatly appreciated for the composition of songs and acronyms for
children such as “L'ape Maia”, sung by Katia Svizzero, and “Io son Calimero”,
sung by Marco Pavone and Ignazio Colnaghi (Calimero's voice).
Don
Tonino Bello said of him that "He handles music and words like a rough
stone, and he speaks of daily life illuminating it with the light of
faith".
