Who Are Those Guys? – Velimir Chytil

Velimir  Chytil was born in Koprivnica, Croatia, Yugoslavia on July 21, 1925. He was a prominent Croatian puppet artist, theatrical director, creator of puppets, choreographer and film actor.

In Zagreb he was employed in the puppet theater. He began working as an employee in a puppet theater in 1948 and continued working there until his retirement in 1982, playing a number of theatrical roles over the length of his career. He had a big role in creating a doll for the first television puppet show. The first show he directed was Pospanko and the Dragon Jure Bukša, which was set up in 1951.

In 1952, he performed his performance with the Loptice Hopsica , which became the most successful ever puppet theater performance in the history of the ZKL: playing over a thousand times.

In 1960 he perfected his puppet art studying puppetry at the Prague Art Academy.

During his career he also appeared in several films and television series. He appeared in such films as “Traveling in Vučjak”, “Velom misty”, two Winnetou films and several others. For the role of Umbrella in the show, the Red Umbrellas received the Prvomajska UDUH Award , the biggest ever prize in Croatia.

He was the husband of the Croatian writer Višnje Stahuljak.
