Jesús García Leoz Navarro was born in Olite, Navarra,
Spain on January 10, 1994. Jesús was a musician and composer. He trained in
Madrid with teachers such as Joaquín Turina, who considered him his favorite
pupil. Belonging to the generation of the Republic, the figure of García Leoz
has transcended above all for his extensive film production. He was one of the
first self-taught professionals in the field of film music. He composed more
than one hundred soundtracks made for the cinema, among which stand out
“Welcome Mr. Marshal”, and those composed for the lyrical theater, music for
concert ‘Tripical’ or chamber music and orchestra ‘Sympathy’ in A flat major’.
His work was recognized with several awards, from the
First Prize of Composition in 1941, the
six Prizes of the Circle of Cinematographic Writers that he obtained between
1945 and 1953.
In 1966 his son José Luis García Leoz delivered his
father’s music file to the Royal and General Archive of Navarra, an institution
that has been in their holdings since then.
