Clint Eastwood, Ennio Morricone and Metallica lay claims
to the 50th anniversary of 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly'
Burgos Cultural Association of 'Sad Hill' has invited the
actor Clint Eastwood to the 50th anniversary of the movie "The Good, the
Bad and the Ugly ', whose shooting took place partly in the Valle del Arlanza,
as was explained by one of the founding members of the organization, Sergio
Garcia.
Garcia noted that the group has sent the invitation to
the actor to his production company in California, but have so far received no
reply, and stressed that at present they are working to contact the Italian
composer Ennio Morricone, author of the soundtrack film, and the group
Metallica, who open their concerts with the ‘Ecstacy of Gold’ in which the
cemetery is first seen in the feature film, to also participate in programming.
In addition, it has contacted the daughter of the
artistic director of the film, Carlo Simi, with which they have taken steps to
organize a show with sketches and original designs of the film production and
they are working right now to engage in the project the widow and daughters of
the director Sergio Leone.
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of 'The Good, the Bad
and the Ugly' next year, the association 'Sad Hill' trust achieved
collaboration of nearby areas where the film was shot, such as Santo Domingo de
Silos municipalities, Salas de los Infantes, Carazo, Contreras and Covarrubias
Hortigüela where they expect to hold concerts, exhibitions and lectures which
are being developed, among other activities.
It is remembered that the place of the symbolic cemetery
of 'Sad Hill' movie is north of the Burgos town of Santo Domingo de Silos,
whose association council has recently obtained permission to rebuild the set
and reconstruction of the cemetery.
Sergio Garcia explained that the group has made a public
appeal for anyone who wants to go on October 3rd and 4th
to the place to begin reconstruction of the landmark cemetery and has advanced
planning next year, to proceed with placement of more than 4,000 tombstones and
markers here.
For this, the association has organized an initiative
under the name 'Adopt a tomb', with a contribution of 15 euros, will raise
money for the cause and the donation is symbolically customize a tablet with
data on the person in question.
Besides the cemetery 'Sad Hill', other sequences of 'The
Good, the Bad and the Ugly' that were filmed in the province of Burgos were the
Mission of San Antonio, the prison camp of Betterville and the Langstone Bridge
battle location.
The cultural association 'Sad Hill' * (www.acsadhill.es)
was created with the aim of promoting the recovery of the exteriors of the
film, considering that they will not pose a substantial alteration of the
landscape and to understand what would represent as a cultural attraction for
this part of the province of Burgos.
