Spaghetti Western Voices ~ “One by One”

As we know most of the Euro-westerns were co-productions from Italy, Spain, Germany and France which incorporated British and American actors to gain a worldwide audience. The films were shot silent and then dubbed into the various languages where they were sold for distribution. That means Italian, Spanish, German, French and English voice actors were hired to dub the films. Even actors from the countries where the film was to be shown were often dubbed by voice actors for various reasons such as the actors were already busy making another film, they wanted to be paid additional salaries for dubbing their voices, the actor’s voice didn’t fit the character they were playing, accidents to the actors and in some cases even death before the film could be dubbed.

I’ll list a Euro-western and the (I) Italian, (S) Spanish, (G) German and (F) French, (E) English voices that I can find and once in a while a bio on a specific voice actor as in Europe.

Gottfried Richter  (1947 -    )

Gottfried Richter born in 1947, he is a German actor, voice-over artist, and radio drama performer.

While still undergoing his acting training at the Theaterhochschule Leipzig (Leipzig Theatre Academy), Gottfried Richter landed his first leading role in 1970 in the DEFA film “Unterwegs zu Lenin” (On the Way to Lenin). Following his successful graduation, at the age of 23, he secured his first professional engagement at the Volkstheater Rostock, though he did not remain there for long. As early as 1974, he transferred to the Schauspielhaus Leipzig, where he performed on stage for 15 years, primarily playing youthful roles. From 1987 to 1989, he held guest engagements at the Staatsoperette Dresden while simultaneously beginning work at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin. He performed there for ten years, achieving great success with his portrayal of Randle Patrick McMurphy in 250 performances of the play “Einer flog über das Kuckucksnest” (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest). From 1999 to 2012, he was a company member at the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Schwerin, where his roles included performances in Henrik Ibsen's “The Wild Duck” and, once again, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest”. In 1999, while in Koserow, he became acquainted with the ensemble of “Klassik am Meer”; there, audiences could see him in productions such as “Maria Stuart”, “Emilia Galotti”, and “The Imaginary Invalid”. He held further theater engagements in Graz, Klagenfurt, Vienna, Rudolstadt (2008/2009), and Heilbronn.

In addition to his stage work, he also worked in front of the camera for film and television, as well as serving as a voice-over artist. For radio, he participated in numerous audio dramas.

For several years, Gottfried Richter was the partner of actress Ursula Werner.
