Spaghetti Western Director ~ Bosko Boskovic

Bosko Boskovic was born in Prizren, Serbia, Yugoslavia on June 12, 1922. He is a Montenegrin film director, screenwriter, and actor known for his contributions to Yugoslav cinema in the mid-20th century, particularly through documentaries and feature films that explored themes of war, imprisonment, and human resilience. He graduated from the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague and became the first academically trained director in Montenegro, initially working in theater after arriving in Cetinje in 1952 before arriving in Cetinje in 1952 to begin his professional work. transitioning to film production with “Lovćen” film in 1956.

His notable works include the award-winning documentary “Kamenom zarobljeni” (1959), which earned second prize at the Pula Film Festival, and the feature film “Nebeski odred” (1961), a war drama about prisoners in a camp that was selected as Yugoslavia's entry for the Moscow International Film Festival and garnered attention at the Edinburgh festival despite criticism for its subject matter. Boskovic also co-directed the East German-Yugoslav production “Weisse Wölfe” (1969) and contributed as a writer and occasional actor to various projects during his career. He passed away on January 7, 2003, in Belgrade, Serbia, Yugoslavia at the age of 81.

Bosko’s only European western was the previously mentioned DEFA film“Weisse Wolfe” (White Wolves) 1969 which he co-directed with Konrad Petzold.

Spaghetti Western Screenwriter ~ George W. Ballor

George W. Ballor remains an enigma. He’s given credit for one screenwriting credit and that was for the Spaghetti western “Uccideva a freddo” (Cold Killer) in 1966.

Other than that, there is no other mention of him and no biographical information.

Spaghetti Western Cinematographer ~ Helmut Brandl

Helmut Brandl is the son of Alois and Gisela and the younger brother of Gunther Brandl. He is a director, writer, cinematographer, film actor, and his sister is director, writer, cinematographer film actress Monika Brandl. Helmut was born in Arnstorf, Germany in 1984. He’s appeared in 48 films among which are four westerns. He was a cinematographer on three of them “Er kannte kein Erbarmen” in 2001 co-cinematographer with his sister Monika Brandl, “Und sie kehrten niemals wieder” in 2013 and “Im Tal von Achor” 2022.
