Who Are Those Guys? ~ Carlos Casaravilla




Carlos Casaravilla Ríos was born in Montevideo, Uruguay on October 12, 1900 of Spanish parents. He moved to Spain in the thirties after residing in Argentina during his childhood.. He excelled in the world of cinema  between 1934 and 1978. He appeared almost always in secondary roles. Carlos debuted with the film “Viva la vida”, by José María Castellví. He appeared in some of his best films which were director by Juan Antonio Bardem, in films such as “Comedians” (1954), “Death of a Cyclist” (1955) and “Sonatas” (1959). On account of his role in “Death of a Cyclist”, writer and critic Eduardo Haro Tecglen acknowledged that he was a "spectacular" actor, and observed: "He was a man specializing in cynical roles, and foreigners, because he spoke several languages, and so they always gave him a role with a foreign accent."

He also appeared in numerous foreign productions, among them Stanley Kramer's “Pride and Passion” (1957), “El tigre se perfuma con dinamita” (1965) by Claude Chabrol and “The Return of the Magnificent Seven” (1967) by Burt Kennedy. In 1959 he starred in the film “El Lazarillo de Tormes”, which won the Golden Bear at the tenth edition of the Berlin International Film Festival.2

In television Carlos participated in many different series and programs such as ‘Studio 3’ (1963), ‘Angelino Pastor’ (1967), ‘Theater of Mystery’ (1970), ‘Studio 1’ (1965-1975), ‘Novel’ (1969-1975), etc. He Died in Cullera, Valencia, Spain on February 17, 1981.
