Spanish director, film actress and television cook
interviewer Elena Santonja died October 17th. She was 84. Born Maria
Elena Santonja Esquivias in Madrid on May 29, 1932 in Madrid she was one of the
pioneer presenters on Spanish TV hosting a daily cooking show where she
interviewed guests such as Fernando Fernan Gomez, Sara Montiel, Pedro Almodovar
and Antonio Ferrandis. Married to film director Jaime de Armiñán and had three
children: Alvaro, Eduardo and Carmen who work in various aspects of the Spanish
film industry. Maria appeared as Mrs. Murray in the 1964 Euro-western “Ride and
Kill” starring Alex Nicol.
