Marcel Anghelescu was born
on November 3, 1909 in Craiova, Romania. Marcel was a famous Romanian film and
theater actor. He graduate in 1933 from the "Dramatic Art
Conservatory" of Chisinau, Romania. His stage career began in 1937 where he
played character roles, predominantly in comedies such as Pristanda in “A Lost Letter of Caragiale”,
and the Fool in “King Lear by Shakespeare” on the stage of the National Theatre
in Bucharest.
Marcel began his film
career in 1943 and he would go on to appear in over 40 films retiring after an
appearance in his only Euro-western “Severino” in 1977 playing the role of
Nicolas.
Anghelescu was named
Honored Artist of the Republic of Romanian People in 1953 "for special
merits for valuable achievements in art and worthy activities and then the
People's Artist of the Romanian People's Republic in 1964 for outstanding
achievements in work in the field of theater, music, visual arts and cinema. He
was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit grade (1967) and also was awarded the
State Prize.
Marcel died on February 22,
1977 in Bucharest, Romania.
