Remembering Carlos López Moctezuma
He was born Carlos López Moctezuma Pineda on November 19, 1909 in Mexico City, Mexico. He is considered by many to be the best Mexican villain of all time because of his brilliant performances. Posessing a strong personality he became a mythical figure in Mexican filmaking. His father was a prominant official of the Mexican National Railroad. Because of this he was able to attend the best schools including theatrical training from Fernando Soler. He made his first film appearance in in 1935 and met his lifetime companion actress Josefina Escobedo whom he would marry and have two children with. As he became typecast as a villain in films his fame grew. His appearance in “La rebelión de los colgados,es una” (1954) cemented his status as one of Mexico's great villains. He would go on to make over 35 westerns and over 200 films total, receive several Ariel awards, make appearances in theater and on radio and television. He made one Euro-western “Viva Maria” as Don Rodriguez in 1965. He died in Aguascalientes, Mexico of an ulcer and emphysema on July 14, 1980. Today we remember Carlos López Moctezuma on what would have been his 100th birthday.
