Italian writer, assistant director, director and
production assistant Michele Massimo Tarantint died in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
on April 3rd. He was 83. Born in Rome on August 7, 1942 he was the
cousin of director Sergio Martino [1938- ] and writer Luciano Martino
[1933-2013]. He was synonymous with the "sexy comedy" genre,
featuring stars such as Lino Banfi, Alvaro Vitali, and Edwige Fenech. Tarantini
worked in several capacities in the Italian film industry before moving to
Brazil over 40 years ago where he owned a *fazenda* that hosted events and
lavish weddings. Active until 1990, he subsequently attempted a revival of the
classic-style comedy in 2001 with “Se lo fai sono guai” featuring his
tried-and-tested team of Vitali, D’Angelo, Gammino, and Montanaro, though by
then the moment had passed; his final directorial effort dates back to 2009
with the action TV movie ‘Il cacciatore di uomini’, starring Luca Ward. Michele
was involved with ten Spaghetti westerns: “$10,000 Blood Money “1967 and
“Vengeance is Mine” 1967 in the production department,
“To Hell and Back” in 1968 as an assistant director,
“Arizona Returns” as film editor and “Light the Fuse… Sartana is Coming” as an
assistant director, both in 1970, “Dig Your Grave Friend... Sabata's Coming” as
film editor and “Guns for Dollars” as an assistant director both in 1971, “My
Horse, My Gun, Your Widow” in 1972 as art director, “His Name Was Holy Ghost”
in 1973 as assistant director] and “Trinity Plus the Bell, the Guitar” in 1975
as a writer.
