Who Are Those Singers & Musicians ~ José Guardiola

José Guardiola Díaz de Rada was born in Barcelona, Spain on October 22, 1930. From a humble family, José Guardiola spent his childhood in Barcelona with his brothers Julio and sister María Guardiola Díaz de Rada, and his parents. The musical vocation in the family was very marked. José at an early age crossed his path with that of a priest, who seeing his talent "sponsored" him and helped him start his career as a singer. José was not the only artist in the family. While he played the violin, his brother Julio learned to play the trumpet and his sister Maria the piano. It is also noteworthy that his own son is a singer in an orchestra.

Endowed with a voice of soft nuances, he would soon participate in various song festivals, which resulted in a growing fame. He quickly established himself as one of the greatest figures of Hispanic song.

He was a Spanish singer of popular music who sang in Spanish and Catalan. He performed and recorded mostly Spanish versions of foreign songs and reached his maximum fame in Spain and Latin America in the early 1960s with versions of songs like "Sixteen Tons", "Mack the Knife" and "Ya Mustafa". He was known as the Spanish Crooner due to his style and the types of songs he sang. He represented Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest 1963, placing 12th. At that time, he also sang a few songs with his infant daughter. He retired in 2008.

Guardiola died in Barcelona on April 9, 2012. He was 81.

  1. Tom, I think you meant to say that Jose Guardiola was 72 years old when he died in April of 2012. Since he was born in October of 1939, that would mean that he was not yet 73. If he were still 82 in April of 2012, then that would mean he was born in October of 1929. I just thought I'd let you know that. Not saying your math is off but you were still so close. No hard feelings.

  2. Sorry you are confusing the actor born in 1921 and died in 1988 with the singer I posted. Every source I can find on the singer gives the dates of birth and death the same as I posted meaning he was 81 when he died.
