Spaghetti Western Trivia ~ Spaghetti western poster art

Many of Spaghetti western posters early on were derived from American pulp novels. They were either duplicated or modified but the similarities are obvious.

Here is a prime example. The pulp cover for the Luke Short novel “Ride the Man Down.

This was the obvious source for the Giuliano Gemma poster for “Adios Gringo. The only difference is Gemma’s face has been substituted for the face on the book cover.

[Thanks to Michael Ferguson for the submission of the novel cover and the Gemma poster.]

  1. The face on the cover of the novel for "Ride The Man Down" sorta looks like either Eduardo Fajardo or Fred MacMurray. I plan on making a movie out of the novel called, "Ride The Man Down" as well as two more Westerns such as "Lone Gunman" and "Blood Calls For Blood". The first will be based on the novel, the second will tell the story of a gunfighter trying to redeem himself, and the third will be about a fictional family feud between two families in Texas after the American Civil War. The Ashtons and the Wards. The patriarch of the Ashtons is Judge Ransom "Rance" Ashton while the patriarch of the Wards is "Uncle" Felix Ward. The feud lasts from 1865 to 1895 and it all starts after Elba Ward kills Judd Ashton over a woman. The two families fight to the bitter end but in order to find out which family wins, you'll have to see the movie for yourself. Until then, wish me luck.
