Little Known Spaghetti Western Actors ~ Florencio Calpe

[These daily posts will cover little known actors or people that have appeared in more recent films and TV series. Various degrees of information that I was able to find will be given and anything that you can add would be appreciated.]

Florencio Calpe Martín was born in Barcelona, Barcelona, Cataluña, Spain on July 24, 1916. He had his greatest success during the post-war period in Spain and America. A performer mainly of zarzuelas, but also of operas, operettas and farces, he stood out for his presence as an actor and for his brilliant singing voice.

He started his singing career in a chorus. Federico Moreno Torroba entrusted him with the tenor part of “Luisa Fernanda” with which he appeared at the Tivoli in Barcelona. He continued in Moreno Torroba's company from 1939 to 1946, premiering in a large number of works. His greatest successes were achieved with “La tabernera del Puerto”. From then on he toured America in the companies of Moreno Torroba and Pepita Embil premiering “Maria Manuela. He was also a film and television actor who appeared in 41 films and TV series from 1952 until 1984.

Florenci Calpe died in Barcelona on September 29, 1989. He was 73.

Calpe appeared in three Spaghetti westerns: Guns of the Revolution in 1969 as rector, billed as Herbert Green in “La diligencia de los condenados” (Stagecoach of the Condemned) billed as Florencia Calpeg and in “Tu fosa será la exacta... amigo” (My Horse, My Gun, Your Widow) in 1972 as a pool player.
