Who Are Those Guys? ~ Dieter Eppler

 

Heinz Dieter Eppler was born in Stuttgart, Germany on February 11, 1927. He was a German television actor and director of radio dramas. He became a prolific character actor, seen in many TV crime series like ‘Tatort’, ‘Derrick’ and ‘The Old Fox’. In the 1950s and 1960s, he had leading roles in several Edgar Wallace adaptations. Often portraying military types, he was noted for his starring role in “U 47 – Kapitänleutnant Prien” (1957). He also made horror films as a character of the evil vampire in the 1962 film “Slaughter of the Vampires”. He was known for his appearances in “Jonas” (1957), “The Last Winter” (1960) and “The Country Doctor”.

He only appeared in two Euro-westerns: ‘Tales of the Wild West’ (TV) in 1969 and as Sheriff Howard Pendleton in 1972’s “They Call Me Providence” with Tomas Milian.

Eppler was married to Magdalene Schnaitmann and they had five children.  He stayed in Germany and worked there and in European films until his death in Stuttgart on April 12, 2008.

  1. Hello Tom. I wanted to ask about the American spaghetti western actor William Conroy. It seems he was born in Pennsylvania. He lived in Florida. What is his date of birth? Thank you.

  2. Conroy's coming up soon. He's a very controversial figure and I can find no birth date for him.
