Umberto Ceriani was born in Milan, Italy on March 7, 1939. He studied acting at the Teatro dei Filodrammatici in Milan under the direction of Esperia Sperani and made his debut in 1957 at the Teatro alle Maschere in Milan under the direction of Fausto Tommei.
His theatrical career continued under the direction of Franco Enriquez, Sandro Bolchi, Silverio Blasi, Alessandro Brissoni, until in 1963 he was chosen by Giorgio Strehler for the role of Ludovico in Bertolt Brecht's “Life of Galileo”
Umberto appeared in 31 films and TV appearances between 1962 and 2015.
Ceriani was married to actress Martine Brochard from 1970-1985 and is the father of assistant director Fernandino Ceriani born in 1973. He then married opera singer Daniela Dessi in 1986 but they later divorced.
His only Spaghetti appearance was as Lieutenant Doctor Foster in thr 1965 film“El escuadrón de la Muerte” (Mutiny at Fort Sharp) starring Broderick Crawford.
