Stella Stevens, the actress best known for her roles in “The
Nutty Professor” and “The Poseidon Adventure” and starring opposite Elvis
Presley in “Girls! Girls! Girls!” and Jason Robards in “The Ballad of Cable Hogue”,
died in Los Angeles on February 17, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s
disease. She was 84. Born Estelle Caro Eggleston on October 1, 1938 in Yazoo
City, Mississippi, U.S.A. A former Playboy centerfold from January 1960,
Stevens was modeling in her hometown of Memphis when she was discovered and
given a screen test by 20th Century Fox. She went on to stardom in both film
and television in over 140 productions. She appeared in only one Euro-western
as Alvira in 1971’s “A Town Called Hell” with Robert Shaw and Telly Savalas.
