Gordon Mitchell appeared in several Demofilo Fidani films,
and in “Giù la testa... Hombre!” was filmed mostly at the
Cave Film Studio, a Western set Mitchell had built on property he won in a
lawsuit over not being paid for his participation in a previous western film.
Gordon was forced to sell the property when he left Italy
and returned to the United States
as another lawsuit declared foreigners could not own property in Italy.
“One Damned Day ant Dawn, Django Meets Sartana” was NOT filmed at the Cave Film Studio. It was filmed in Cinecittà's western town.
ReplyDeleteThe picture of this post is, in fact, a picture of the Cave Film Studio and these Fidani's westerns were shot there:
"Era Sam Wallash..."
"Giù la testa... Hombre!"
"Per una bara piena di dollari"
"Amico mio, frega tu che frego io"

Thanks for the clarification and the additional information Emanuel.
ReplyDeleteI bet Gordon Mitchell must have been awful sore at the fact that he had to sell Cave Studio in Rome, Italy. I would be butt-hurt too if I had to see all of my work go to waste. Gordon really tried hard to keep the land he had purchased for his Westerns but since foreigners could not own any type of land in Italy he was forced to return to the United States unhappy. He would eventually return to Europe to make war films as well as "giallo" films but never again would he own his own land. Gordon Mitchell was born as Charles Allen Pendleton on July 29, 1923 in Denver, Colorado and died on September 30, 2003 in Marina Del Rey, California, at age 80. RIP Gordon Mitchell. Interesting fact. He played a cameo role as himself in an uncredited role in the 1971 Robert Woods Spaghetti Western, "Savage Guns". A true Hollywood and Spaghetti Western icon gone but not forgotten.
ReplyDeleteI got Gordon Mitchell's death date wrong. He actually died on September 20, 2003. My bad.
