100 years ago Zorro made his debut, in the pulp magazine All-Story Weekly with the story
"The Curse of Capistrano" (serialized in 5 parts between August 9 and
September 6 1919) and created by author Johnston McCulley [1883-1958]. The
character made his movie debut in “The Mark of Zorro” (1920) starring Douglas Fairbanks
and there followed many movies and TV series ever since. Italy made several
Zorro films from the 1950's to the 1970's. Actors who played Zorro in Italian
movies include Gordon Scott, Tony Russel, Sean Flynn, Nadir Moretti, Howard
Ross and Pierre Brice. The Italian Zorro filmography include: “The Dream of
Zorro” (1952); “The Masked Conqueror” (1962); “The Shadow of Zorro” (1962); “Duel
at the Rio Grande” (1963); “Mask of the Musketeers” (1963); “The Three Swords

Queen” (1964); “Zorro the Rebel” (1966); “The Nephews of Zorro” (1968); “Zorro
the Fox” (1968); “Zorro in the Court of England” (1969); “Zorro’s Latest Adventure” (1969); “Zorro the Navarra
Marquis” (1969); “Zorro Rider of Vengeance” (1971); Zorro the Invincible” (1971);
“Zorro the Lawman” (1972); “Son of Zorro (1973); Le meravigliose avventure di
Zorro (1974); “Grandsons of Zorro (1975); “Who’s Afraid of Zorro (1975) and “Zorro”
(1975).
