Spaghetti Western Locations ~ Balsicas de Alfaro

Balsicas de Alfaro is a pleasant place at the foot of the southern side of Mount Alfara, accessible through Rambla Indalecio, north of the village of Rioja. A kind of natural terrace dominates the ramble and was used in several films, including “Gunfight at High Noon” (1963), “Seven from Texas” (1964), “For a Few Dollars More” (1965) (in the sequence after the bank of El Paso is robbed and Groggy / Luigi Pistilli shoots the insulators of the telegraph wires). A few hundred meters up the hill a small building in an isolated place was used as a set and almost always appears as a Mexican mission, near a larger complex (which included stables) is located under the mountain in the movies “For the Taste of Killing” ( 1966); “Vengeance is Mine (1967); “I Want Him Dead” (1968) (the building that is usually used as a mission here instead is presented as a night shelter for the gang): “Blood and Guns” (1969); “Adios, Sabata” (1970); “The Deserter” (1970); “Chato's Land” (1971) (the buildings of the stables represent the ranch of the settler who refuses to join the group chasing Chato); “The Hunting Party” (1971); “Shanghai Joe” (1973). The buildings do not appear in the film “Companeros” (1970).

The adjoining buildings was a one time a large ranch building and stables, like the small out building which was used as a chapel the ranch building was also seen in several films including “The Deserter” (1970) and “Chato’s Land” (1971).
