Francis ‘Franz’ Bonnet was
born in Berlin, Berlin, Germany on October 12, 1893. Bonnet studied from 1922
to 1924 his acting at Ferdinand Gregori in Berlin. After graduation he made his
debut as an actor at the Volksbühne Berlin. He then acted at the Schwerin from
1940 to 1956 before coming to Berlin and performing on various stages of the
German theater in 1962.
In addition, he was active in films from the 1930s, mostly in minor roles. Later he was offered roles in DEFA films, where he was also often seen in supporting roles such as his only Euro-western “The Sons of Great Bear” (1966) and appeared in an occasional TV performance. His son, Horst Bonnet [1931- ], was a famous German director for musical theater plays.
