Happy 85th Birthday José Luis Merino


José Luis Merino was born on June 10, 1927 in Madrid, Spain. Sometimes used the aliases L. Merino, J.L. Merino, Merino Boves, John Davidson and Joseph Marvin over his 30+ year career as a director, assistant director, production manager, producer, writer and actor. Merino’s career began in 1958 as co-director along with  Mateo Cano of the film “Aquellos tiempos del cuplé” starring Rafael Luis Calvo, Gérard Tichy and Manuel Monroy for which he was awarded the "Jimeno" Revelation Award by the Cinema Writers Circle for best directing. Of his 31 films he directed and wrote screenplays for nine Euro-westerns including “Kitosch, the Man Who Came from the North” (1966), “Duel in the Eclipse”, “Gatling Gun” (both 1968), “More Dollars for the MacGregors” (1970), and “Zorro the Rider of Vengeance” (1971). Merino’s last film was “Superagentes en Mallorca” filmed in 1990. Today we celebrate José Luis Merino’s 85th birthday.
