New Winnetou TV Miniseries in pre-production

Wotan Wilke Möhring assumes the role of Old Shatterhand in the new RTL-miniseries. The films will be shown on TV at Christmas 2016.

This summer, the shooting will commence for a new TV miniseries based on themes by Karl May, according to recent publications in Croatia. The first signed actor is now known  and officially confirmed: Wotan Wilke Möhring, known among other things for his role in crime films, takes on the role of Old Shatterhand. Who will play the role Winnetou? Apparently is not yet clear. Production of the new films from RatPack Films, Mythos Film and Rialto Film is lead by director Philipp Stölzl ("Goethe").

"I hope that the films are supported in the spirit of Karl May: also" stated the original Winnetou "Pierre Brice, who said, “A parody would be the most fatal for me that you could do to his books and films of the 1960s," said Brice to Bild newspaper. The idea to act as Winnetou's father, on the other hand does not seem to entice Brice’s enthusiasm.

Also further in the planning stage is a film project, the Aventine Film, which is supported in this endeavor exclusively by Karl-May-Verlag. "Winnetou I" is to be begin in the autumn of this year with release in 2016 in the cinema. In contrast to the Rat Pack production that relies on locations in Croatia, some scenes in America are to be shot at Aventine.
