It all began in 1870 in Washington. Matt Montgomery works in the Ministry
of the Interior and lives an inconspicuous life without scandals as a
functionary. But this quiet life is over at a stroke when he comes home one
evening and finds his wife murdered. The daughter has suffered the same fate.
But why this cruel crime? This cannot leave Montgomery to himself, so he sets
out on the way to the deepest West to find the murderer of his family.
"The Star of the Desert" is more than just a revenge story, it is
also a mystery, the main character tries to find out what the connection of his
daughter to this man, who works for the railroad company, has been. In the
first volume, this remains open, but Desberg looks deep into the psyche of his
main character. By making Montgomery himself a narrator, he makes the reader
identify with him more closely, but at the same time provides a distance.
Because Montgomery, strictly following the rules, is not a sympathizer, and yet
he is the only positive figure in this desolate world of the Wild West, in a
place where the last foothills of civilization end.
Marini not only skilfully portrays the story, he portrayed Montgomery
himself excellently. The man recalls Sean Connery at his best, for example, in
the films "Hunting for Red October" or "The Rock".
This is a France / Belgium comic book series and was written by Stephen
Desberg and drawn by Enrico Marini. The series began in 1996 and consisted of 3
volumes.
The French hardback western comic albums are great. Even if you can't read French, like me; they are always worth buying for the excellent artwork.
