Alberto De Mendoza has left us on December 12. He 'was one of the actors of Mrs. Wardh and "The Tail of Scorpion". The last time I met him was in Madrid's airport, fifteen years ago. I was in transit (perhaps returned from Cuba) and he can not remember what, specifically was to meet me. I like to remember, cheerful and kind, I like to remember how on that occasion, an old friend ... - Sergio Martino
ReplyDeleteI saw Alberto De Mendoza in two Spaghetti Westerns. "The Forgotten Pistolero" from 1969 with Leonard Mann and "A Bullet For Sandoval" from 1970 with George Hilton, Ernest Borgnine, Leo Anchoriz, and Antonio Pica. Dan Van Husen was in the latter film but his role was uncredited. I also happen to own that film and I was surprised that I could find it anywhere in the United States or anywhere at all for that matter. George Hilton became one of my favorite Spaghetti Western actors because of that film. I've also seen him in "Massacre Time", "Any Gun Can Play", "Red Blood, Yellow Gold", "Full House For The Devil", and "Last Of The Badmen". He died in 2019 and one of his co-stars, Edd Byrnes, died a year later. George Martin was in "Red Blood, Yellow Gold" with both Hilton and Byrnes and he died in 2021. All legends. Gone but not forgotten. Adios, Alberto, George, and Edd. Tell Sergio Leone I said hello.
