RIP Paul Wendkos

Director Paul Wendkos died earlier today, Thursday November 12, 2009, at his Malibu, California, home. He was 87. Wendkos was a prolific director, with credits on more than 110 projects, including films, TV movies and miniseries. He directed such primetime TV network shows as “Playhouse 90”, “Route 66”, “Naked City”, “The Untouchables”, “Dr. Kildare”, “Ben Casey”, “The Big Valley”, “The FBI”, “I Spy” and “Hawaii 50”. Wendkos was nominated for an Emmy for his direction of 1988's “Tha Taking of Flight 847: The Uli Derickson Story”, starring Lindsay Wagner.

His feature films included 1961's “Angel Baby” with George Hamilton and Mercedes McCambridge, 1971's “The Mephisto Waltz” starring Alan Alda and Jacqueline Bisset along with two westerns filmed in Spain 1969's “The Guns of the Magnificent 7” starring George Kennedy and Michael Ansara and 1970's “Cannon for Cordoba” with George Peppard and Giovanna Ralli.

He is survived by his wife, producer Lin Bolen.
